Janice Savonen Stevenson
Black & grey, illustrative, and ornamental — stories rendered to flow with the body.
Her voice
“The magic and mysteries of existence sneak their way into the souls of the creatures she creates.”
The story
Art as a way of telling stories.
Janice’s art is her way of telling stories. Each piece mirrors her travels, her curiosity about the natural world, and a compass for growth. Her artistic voice pairs with the client’s vision to render a piece that flows with the body — and the magic and mysteries of existence sneak their way into the souls of the creatures she creates.
She spends time in the elements: observing, gathering inspiration and peace, recreating their beauty. She wants the wearer to feel strong, accomplished, beautiful, and cared for.
A black-and-grey artist, Janice works in illustrative and ornamental tattooing. She designs patterns from nature and draws from architecture, studying symbols, creation stories, and belief systems gathered from her travels around the globe and in her own backyard.
Janice learned to tattoo in Indonesia at twenty-one, then worked in shops across California before landing back home in Colorado during the pandemic. There she reconnected with her now-husband, Alex; together they own High Nowhere in Crested Butte. They’ve travelled to a dozen countries to tattoo, continually growing their craft and collecting new perspectives.
Away from the studio, Janice lives the hygge life — sauna, cold plunge, yoga, skiing, and her kittens.
