The two of us
Partners in life and in the studio.
High Nowhere is Janice and Alex. They came home to Colorado, married on skis beneath Mt. Crested Butte, and built the studio they always wanted — unhurried, exacting, and rooted in the mountains.
Janice is a black-and-grey, illustrative, and ornamental artist who learned to tattoo in Indonesia at twenty-one and refined her craft across California before landing back in the valley. Alex has tattooed in Crested Butte for a decade — bold neo-traditional work, large in scale and Japanese in influence.
Together they’ve tattooed their way through a dozen countries, learning from some of the world’s best and carrying every new perspective home to the studio.

High Nowhere is Crested Butte’s custom tattoo shop — original art in a variety of styles from a small crew of resident artists, plus the guest artists we love to host.
We work by appointment only, and each artist can be reached directly to schedule. Whatever you bring us, we strive to bring your idea to life and aim to exceed your expectations — in a safe, comfortable studio where everyone is treated with high respect.
When we’re not tattooing, we’re on the skin track or chasing the seasons that make this place worth coming home to. The mountains shape the art; the town shapes the life.
