Alex

Alex has been tattooing in Crested Butte for ten years. Early on he challenged himself with whatever style a client requested, learning a wide range of techniques he still folds into his work today. With the help of his wife and fellow artist, Janice, he refined his style toward neo-traditional — building compositions from large elements and strong color.

He’s obsessed with quality: clean designs that fit the body, read clearly, and age well. That approach shines at medium and large scale, and he’s honored to take on bigger projects. His subject matter ranges widely — he’s often up for a challenge — but his passion stays with nature, animals, skulls, and flowers.

Alex and Janice have been fortunate to take their work overseas, tattooing together in twelve countries. Through conventions, seminars, and guest spots they’ve learned from some of the world’s best artists, and travel fuels their inspiration through new art, architecture, and experience. Alex has a deep respect for Japanese art and loves to work waves, clouds, and wind bars into his backgrounds — elements that flow with the body, where bold black ink pops the contrast against color.
